Hey, Brad Paisley, Wanna New Song?

I asked my friend, co-writer, and producer to remake the “Get a Puppy” song demo. I revised the lyrics from the earlier not-conversational-enough version, and Dale made it more country. He also does a great job of playing up the joke. I hope you enjoy it. And of course, it is available to artists 🙂
(Sorry I can’t post the audio here—I’m too cheap—but it is available on SongRamp and Reverbnation)
Get a Puppy

by Pam Bowen and Robert McKnight

I spent every paycheck and sometimes more
Buying girls drinks and hoping to score,
But one-night stands soon weren’t enough,
And honky-tonk girls all acted tough.
I knew I wanted somebody sweeter,
But I had no clue where I could meet her.
Then one day as I passed by,
The pups in the pet store caught my eye.

PRE-CHORUS:
And it struck me like a magic charm:
Hold a cute little puppy in your arms.

CHORUS:
IN DROVES THE GIRLS WILL FLOCK TO YOU
TO PET YOUR POOCH—THAT’S WHAT THEY DO.
A GUY SHOULD GET A LITTLE PUPPY
IF HE WANTS TO GET A LITTLE …LUCKY.

Sitting in the park with my mutt named Rover,
I watch for the ladies to stroll on over.
A sweet thing nears, my pup starts wriggling.
She strokes his ears and can’t help giggling.
When I tell her I rescued my pup from a shelter,
My big, warm heart will be fixin’ to melt her.
She touches my arm and calls me a good guy,
And I have her number before she says good-bye.

She can’t resist this magic charm:
Hold a cute little puppy in your arms.

REPEAT CHORUS

BRIDGE:
I promise you, buddy, a puppy will work.
A girl thinks a dog-lover can’t be a jerk.
A Yorkie, a Scottie, a real canine cutie
Is downright sure to get you some…girlfriends.

Feel free to use this magic charm:
Hold a cute little puppy in your arms.

REPEAT CHORUS
