I submitted three songs to the 2009 Great American Song Contest. Writers are cautioned about entering songs (or any other writing) in contests that might be scams. This one offered written critiques on all songs submitted, win or lose, so I thought it was worth the entry fee. I have yet to receive the critiques, but the other day an email with the results arrived with a happy surprise. In the Lyrics Only category, I received an Honor Award for “Get a Puppy.” There were over 1500 entries submitted in nine categories, and in the Lyrics Only category five prizes were awarded and 18 Honor Awards. I am thrilled to have won an honorable mention after only about six months of song writing. The Honor Award banner in the right hand column is clickable and will link you to the contest website and the list of finalists. When I receive the critiques, I will let you know what the judges said.
